Chief Mechanic
We are seeking an experienced Chief Mechanic to lead our workshop operations with a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have proven hands-on experience in diagnosing and repairing light and heavy vehicles commonly used in PNG, with the ability to supervise and mentor junior mechanics.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as an automotive mechanic, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Proven ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of vehicle systems (engine, transmission, brakes, electrical, etc.).
- Strong familiarity with diagnostic tools, workshop equipment, and safety protocols.
- High school diploma or equivalent; formal automotive certification (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent) is preferred but not required if experience is demonstrable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily repair and maintenance operations in the workshop.
- Assign and supervise tasks to junior mechanics and ensure quality of work.
- Diagnose complex mechanical issues and perform high-level repairs.
- Maintain service records, manage parts inventory, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Liaise with customers and service advisors to explain technical issues and repair options.
- Train and mentor junior staff on best practices and new technologies.
